অনেক অনেক দিন আগের কথা। ইমরানের পরিবার ছিল আল্লাহভীরু ও নেককার। ইমরানের স্ত্রী আল্লাহর কাছে মানত করেছিলেন—তাঁর গর্ভের সন্তানকে তিনি আল্লাহর ঘরের সেবায় উৎসর্গ করবেন। সন্তান জন্ম নিল, একটি মেয়ে। মা তাঁর নাম রাখলেন মরিয়ম, আর দোয়া করলেন, আল্লাহ যেন তাঁকে ও তাঁর সন্তানকে শয়তানের অনিষ্ট থেকে রক্ষা করেন।
Long, long ago there lived the family of Imran, a family known for its faith and goodness. Imran’s wife made a vow to Allah: the child she was expecting would be devoted to the service of Allah’s house. The baby was born, and she was a girl. Her mother named her Maryam and prayed that Allah would protect her and her child from the harm of Shaytan.
আল্লাহ এই মেয়েটিকে সুন্দরভাবে কবুল করলেন এবং সুন্দরভাবে বড় করে তুললেন। তাঁর দেখাশোনার দায়িত্ব পেলেন নবী জাকারিয়া (আ.)। ছোটবেলা থেকেই মরিয়ম (আ.) ছিলেন শান্ত, সংযমী আর ইবাদতে মনোযোগী। ইবাদতখানার নিরিবিলি কোণে বসে তিনি আল্লাহকে স্মরণ করতেন। বাইরে বাতাসে খেজুরপাতা সরসর করে দুলত, আর ভেতরে থাকত গভীর প্রশান্তি।
Allah accepted the little girl graciously and helped her grow up in the best way. The Prophet Zakariya (AS) was given the duty of caring for her. From childhood, Maryam (AS) was calm, self-controlled and devoted to worship. She would sit in a quiet corner of the place of prayer, remembering Allah. Outside, the palm leaves rustled in the breeze; inside, there was deep peace.
জাকারিয়া (আ.) যখনই তাঁর কাছে যেতেন, অবাক হয়ে দেখতেন, তাঁর সামনে খাবার রাখা আছে। একদিন তিনি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, “মরিয়ম, এগুলো তোমার কাছে কোথা থেকে এল?” মরিয়ম (আ.) শান্তভাবে বললেন, “এগুলো আল্লাহর কাছ থেকে। আল্লাহ যাকে চান, অগণিত রিজিক দেন।” তাঁর পরিচ্ছন্ন মন, ধৈর্য আর নিবেদন তাঁকে সবার কাছে সম্মানিত করে তুলেছিল। ফেরেশতারাও তাঁকে জানালেন, আল্লাহ তাঁকে মনোনীত করেছেন এবং পবিত্র রেখেছেন।
Whenever Zakariya (AS) came to see her, he was surprised to find food laid out before her. One day he asked, “Maryam, where did this come from?” She answered calmly, “It is from Allah. Allah gives to whomever He wills without measure.” Her pure heart, patience and devotion earned her everyone’s respect. The angels, too, told her that Allah had chosen her and kept her pure.
একদিন মরিয়ম (আ.) পরিবার থেকে একটু দূরে, পূর্ব দিকের এক নিরিবিলি জায়গায় গেলেন। হঠাৎ সেখানে মানুষের রূপে এলেন ফেরেশতা জিবরাইল (আ.)। মরিয়ম (আ.) চমকে উঠে পরম দয়াময় আল্লাহর কাছে আশ্রয় চাইলেন। জিবরাইল (আ.) জানালেন, তিনি আল্লাহর পাঠানো দূত—আল্লাহর ইচ্ছায় মরিয়ম (আ.) এক পবিত্র পুত্রসন্তানের মা হবেন। মরিয়ম (আ.) বিস্মিত হয়ে জানতে চাইলেন, কোনো পুরুষ তো তাঁকে স্পর্শ করেনি, তবে এ কীভাবে হবে? উত্তর এল—আল্লাহর জন্য এটা সহজ; এই শিশু হবে মানুষের জন্য এক নিদর্শন ও রহমত।
One day Maryam (AS) went a little way from her family, to a quiet place towards the east. Suddenly the angel Jibril (AS) appeared before her in the form of a man. Startled, she sought refuge with Allah, the Most Merciful. Jibril (AS) told her that he was a messenger sent by Allah: by Allah’s will, she would become the mother of a pure son. Amazed, she asked how this could be, when no man had ever touched her. The answer came: it is easy for Allah, and this child would be a sign for people and a mercy.
খবরটি ছিল বিস্ময়কর, আর সামনে অপেক্ষা করছিল কঠিন সময়। তবু মরিয়ম (আ.) ভয়কে নিজের বিশ্বাসের চেয়ে বড় হতে দিলেন না। সন্তান জন্মের সময় ঘনিয়ে এলে তিনি দূরের এক নির্জন জায়গায় চলে গেলেন। ক্লান্ত আর কষ্টে কাতর হয়ে তিনি একটি খেজুরগাছের কাণ্ডের পাশে আশ্রয় নিলেন।
The news was wondrous, and a difficult time lay ahead. Yet Maryam (AS) did not let fear grow bigger than her faith. When the time of the birth drew near, she went away to a lonely, distant place. Tired and in pain, she rested beside the trunk of a date palm.
তখন তাঁকে সান্ত্বনা দিয়ে বলা হলো, দুঃখ কোরো না; তোমার প্রতিপালক তোমার পায়ের কাছে একটি ঝরনা বইয়ে দিয়েছেন। খেজুরগাছের কাণ্ড ধরে নাড়া দাও—তোমার ওপর পাকা, তাজা খেজুর ঝরে পড়বে। খাও, পান করো, আর মন শান্ত রাখো। কুলকুল করে বয়ে চলা ঠান্ডা পানি, টুপটাপ ঝরে পড়া মিষ্টি খেজুর—আল্লাহর দয়া যেন চারদিক থেকে তাঁকে ঘিরে রইল। এভাবেই জন্ম নিলেন ঈসা (আ.)।
Then words of comfort came to her: do not grieve; your Lord has made a stream flow at your feet. Shake the trunk of the palm, and fresh, ripe dates will fall down to you. Eat, drink and be at peace. The cool water bubbling past, the sweet dates dropping one by one—Allah’s mercy seemed to surround her on every side. And so Isa (AS) was born.
শিশুকে কোলে নিয়ে মরিয়ম (আ.) নিজের লোকদের কাছে ফিরলেন। লোকেরা অবাক হয়ে নানা প্রশ্ন করল, কেউ কেউ কঠিন কথাও বলল। মরিয়ম (আ.) সেদিন আল্লাহর জন্য কথা না বলার রোজা রেখেছিলেন। তাই তিনি কিছু না বলে চুপচাপ শিশুটির দিকে ইশারা করলেন। লোকেরা বলল, “দোলনার শিশুর সঙ্গে আমরা কীভাবে কথা বলব?” ঠিক তখনই আল্লাহর কুদরতে শিশু ঈসা (আ.) কথা বলে উঠলেন। তিনি জানালেন, তিনি আল্লাহর বান্দা; আল্লাহ তাঁকে কিতাব দিয়েছেন এবং নবী বানিয়েছেন।
Carrying her baby, Maryam (AS) returned to her people. They were astonished and asked her many questions, and some spoke harshly. That day she had vowed, for Allah, not to speak to anyone, so she said nothing and simply pointed to the baby. “How can we talk to a baby in the cradle?” the people asked. At that very moment, by Allah’s power, the infant Isa (AS) spoke. He said that he was a servant of Allah, and that Allah had given him the Scripture and made him a prophet.
এরপরও মরিয়ম (আ.)-কে জীবনে নানা প্রশ্ন ও কষ্ট সহ্য করতে হয়েছে। কিন্তু তিনি নিজের পবিত্রতা ও বিশ্বাসে অটল ছিলেন। কুরআনে তাঁর নামে একটি পুরো সূরা আছে—সূরা মারইয়াম। তাঁর জীবন মনে করিয়ে দেয়, কখনও এমন পরীক্ষাও আসে, যার উত্তর আমরা সঙ্গে সঙ্গে বুঝতে পারি না।
Even after this, Maryam (AS) faced questions and hardship in her life, but she held firmly to her purity and her faith. A whole chapter of the Qur’an carries her name: Surah Maryam. Her life reminds us that some tests arrive before we fully understand why they have come.
মরিয়ম (আ.)-এর জীবন আমাদের শেখায়—কঠিন সময়ে শান্ত থাকা, নিজের চরিত্র রক্ষা করা আর আল্লাহর ওপর আস্থা রাখাই সবচেয়ে বড় শক্তি।
Maryam’s life teaches us that staying calm in hard times, guarding our character and trusting Allah are the greatest sources of strength.
