হিজরতের চার বছর পর মদিনায় জন্ম নেন হুসাইন ইবন আলী (রা.)। তিনি ছিলেন নবী মুহাম্মদ (সা.)-এর নাতি এবং আলী (রা.) ও ফাতেমা (রা.)-এর পুত্র। তাঁর বড় ভাই ছিলেন হাসান (রা.)। নবী পরিবারের সদস্য হিসেবে তিনি মুসলিম ঐতিহ্যে গভীর ভালোবাসা ও সম্মানের সঙ্গে স্মরণীয়।
Husayn ibn Ali (RA) was born in Madinah, four years after the Hijrah. He was a grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the son of Ali (RA) and Fatimah (RA). His elder brother was Hasan (RA). As a member of the Prophet’s family, he is remembered in Muslim tradition with deep love and respect.
নানাজান নবীজি (সা.) দুই নাতিকে অসম্ভব ভালোবাসতেন। তিনি হাসান ও হুসাইন (রা.)-কে বলতেন দুনিয়ায় তাঁর দুটি সুগন্ধি ফুল। তিনি বলেছেন, হাসান ও হুসাইন জান্নাতের যুবকদের নেতা। ছোট্ট দুই ভাই কখনও নানাজানের কোলে উঠে বসতেন, কখনও তাঁর কাছে ছুটে আসতেন, আর তিনি পরম মমতায় তাঁদের কাছে টেনে নিতেন।
Their grandfather, the Prophet, loved his two grandsons dearly. He called Hasan and Husayn his two fragrant flowers in this world, and he said that Hasan and Husayn are the leaders of the youth of Paradise. Sometimes the two little brothers climbed onto their grandfather’s lap, sometimes they came running to him, and he would draw them close with great tenderness.
বড় হয়ে হুসাইন (রা.) জ্ঞান, ইবাদত ও উদারতার জন্য পরিচিত হন। মদিনার মানুষ তাঁকে সম্মান করত, তাঁর কাছে পরামর্শ নিতে আসত। নবী পরিবারের শিক্ষা আর বাবা-মায়ের আদর্শ তাঁর চরিত্রে ফুটে উঠেছিল।
As he grew up, Husayn became known for his knowledge, worship and generosity. The people of Madinah respected him and came to him for advice. The teachings of the Prophet’s household and the example of his parents shone through his character.
তিনি এমন এক সময়ে বাস করেন, যখন মুসলিম সমাজে নেতৃত্ব নিয়ে গুরুতর বিরোধ তৈরি হয়েছিল। ইয়াজিদ যখন শাসক হলো, হুসাইন (রা.) তার শাসন মেনে নিয়ে বাইআত দিতে রাজি হননি। কুফার অনেক মানুষ চিঠি পাঠিয়ে তাঁকে সেখানে যাওয়ার আমন্ত্রণ জানায়। তখন তিনি পরিবার-পরিজন ও অল্প কিছু সঙ্গী নিয়ে মরুভূমির দীর্ঘ পথে যাত্রা করেন।
He lived at a time when serious disagreement had arisen in the Muslim community over leadership. When Yazid became ruler, Husayn refused to accept his rule and give him the pledge of allegiance. Many people of Kufa sent letters inviting him to come to them. So he set out on the long desert road with his family and a small group of companions.
৬৮০ খ্রিষ্টাব্দে, মহররম মাসের দশ তারিখে, ফোরাত নদীর কাছে কারবালার প্রান্তরে সেই বিরোধ এক মর্মান্তিক ঘটনায় পৌঁছায়। বিশাল এক বাহিনী তাঁদের পথ আটকে দেয়। সেখানে হুসাইন (রা.) এবং তাঁর সঙ্গীদের অনেকে শহীদ হন। এটি ছিল ত্যাগ, সংঘাত এবং গভীর শোকের একটি অধ্যায়।
In 680 CE, on the tenth of the month of Muharram, near the river Euphrates on the plain of Karbala, that conflict reached a tragic end. A large army blocked their way. There, Husayn and many of his companions were martyred. It was a painful chapter of sacrifice, conflict and deep loss.
কারবালার স্মৃতি মুসলিম ইতিহাসে বহু মানুষের কাছে নীতি, সাহস, ত্যাগ এবং অবিচারের মুখে অবস্থান নেওয়ার বিষয়ে গভীর চিন্তার জায়গা হয়ে আছে। আজও আশুরার দিনে বাংলাদেশসহ সারা পৃথিবীর মুসলমানরা কারবালার কথা স্মরণ করে। একই সঙ্গে এই ইতিহাস আমাদের সংঘাতের ভয়াবহ পরিণতি নিয়েও ভাবায়।
The memory of Karbala has led generations of Muslims to reflect on principle, courage, sacrifice and standing firm in the face of injustice. Even today, on the day of Ashura, Muslims in Bangladesh and around the world remember Karbala. At the same time, this history reminds us of the terrible cost that conflict can bring.
হুসাইন (রা.)-এর জীবন থেকে আমরা শিখতে পারি—নীতির প্রশ্নে সাহস দরকার, আর মানুষের জীবন, মর্যাদা ও শান্তির মূল্যও সবসময় মনে রাখতে হয়।
Husayn’s life teaches us that courage is needed when principles are at stake, and the value of human life, dignity and peace should always be remembered.
