In a deep forest by a river lived a wonderful bird. It had one body, one tummy, two wings and two legs, but two heads! The right head was called Tunu and the left head was called Munu. They flew together and slept together. When one felt hungry, the other’s tummy rumbled too.

But the two heads had different natures. Tunu thought mostly about himself. Munu was touchy and got upset easily. Still, they managed to get along most of the time.

One afternoon, as they flew along the river, Tunu spotted a tree hung with ripe golden fruit. He plucked one with his beak and took a bite. “Mmm! How sweet, just like honey!”

“Please give me a little too, brother!” said Munu quickly. “Let me taste it.” Tunu turned away. “Why should I? I found it. Besides, we share one tummy, so if I eat it, you’ll be full too!” And he ate the whole fruit by himself.

Munu felt deeply hurt. “We may share a tummy, but I didn’t get the taste!” With tears in his eyes he thought, “Just wait. I’ll teach you a lesson.”

A few days later, as they were flying, Munu saw a thorny tree with dark purple fruit. Everyone in the forest knew that this fruit was poisonous and made you terribly ill. Munu stretched his beak towards it.

Tunu was horrified. “No, no, Munu! Don’t eat that! We have only one body, and it will harm us both!” But Munu was too angry to listen. “You didn’t listen to me that day!” he said, and gulped the fruit down.

Soon the bird’s tummy began to ache terribly. Their heads spun and their wings went weak. Somehow they found shelter in a hollow in a tree. For days the two heads lay there, shivering and unable to eat, both of them crying from the pain.

At last, slowly, they got better. Tunu said gently, “Forgive me, Munu. If I had shared that fruit, none of this would have happened.” Munu said, “I made a mistake too, out of anger.” From that day on, whatever they found, they shared. Both had learned that when you live together, selfishness and anger hurt everyone; getting along is the way to be happy.
