জাকারিয়া (আ.) ছিলেন আল্লাহর একজন নবী। তিনি বাইতুল মুকাদ্দাসের ইবাদতখানায় আল্লাহর ইবাদত করতেন আর মানুষকে সৎপথে ডাকতেন। বয়স বাড়তে বাড়তে তিনি বৃদ্ধ হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন, চুল-দাড়ি সাদা হয়ে গিয়েছিল। তাঁর স্ত্রীও ছিলেন বন্ধ্যা, তাঁদের কোনো সন্তান ছিল না।
Zakariya (peace be upon him) was a prophet of Allah. He worshipped Allah in the house of prayer in Jerusalem and called people to the right path. As the years passed he grew old, and his hair and beard turned white. His wife was unable to have children, and they had no child.
ইমরানের স্ত্রী মানত করেছিলেন, তাঁর সন্তানকে আল্লাহর ইবাদতের জন্য উৎসর্গ করবেন। তাঁর ঘরে জন্ম নিলেন মারইয়াম (আ.)। আল্লাহ তাঁকে সুন্দরভাবে কবুল করলেন এবং জাকারিয়া (আ.)-কে তাঁর অভিভাবক বানালেন। ছোট্ট মারইয়াম থাকতেন ইবাদতের এক নিরিবিলি কক্ষে, যাকে বলে মিহরাব।
The wife of Imran had vowed to dedicate her child to the worship of Allah. Her daughter Maryam (peace be upon her) was born. Allah accepted her graciously and made Zakariya her guardian. Young Maryam lived in a quiet room of worship called the mihrab.
জাকারিয়া (আ.) যখনই মিহরাবে মারইয়াম (আ.)-এর কাছে যেতেন, দেখতেন তাঁর কাছে খাবার রাখা আছে। একদিন তিনি জিজ্ঞেস করলেন, “মারইয়াম, এগুলো তুমি কোথায় পেলে?” মারইয়াম (আ.) বললেন, “এগুলো আল্লাহর কাছ থেকে এসেছে। আল্লাহ যাকে চান, অগণিত রিজিক দেন।”
Whenever Zakariya visited Maryam in the mihrab, he found food with her. One day he asked, “Maryam, where did you get this?” She said, “It is from Allah. Allah gives without measure to whomever He wills.”
এই কথা শুনে জাকারিয়া (আ.)-এর মনে আশা জাগল। যে আল্লাহ এভাবে রিজিক দেন, তিনি তো সবকিছুই পারেন! সেখানেই তিনি চুপিচুপি, নিচু স্বরে রবকে ডাকলেন, “হে আমার রব, আমার হাড় দুর্বল হয়ে গেছে, মাথার চুল সাদা হয়ে গেছে। কিন্তু তোমাকে ডেকে আমি কখনো নিরাশ হইনি। আমার পরে আত্মীয়দের নিয়ে আমার চিন্তা হয়, আর আমার স্ত্রী বন্ধ্যা। তুমি তোমার পক্ষ থেকে আমাকে একজন নেক উত্তরাধিকারী দাও, আর তাকে তোমার প্রিয় বানাও। তুমিই দোয়া শোনো।”
Hearing this, hope rose in Zakariya's heart. The Lord who provides like this can do anything! Right there he called upon his Lord softly and privately: “My Lord, my bones have grown weak and my head is white with age. But I have never been disappointed in calling on You. I worry about my relatives after me, and my wife cannot have children. Grant me from Yourself a righteous heir, and make him pleasing to You. You hear every prayer.”
জাকারিয়া (আ.) যখন মিহরাবে দাঁড়িয়ে নামাজ পড়ছিলেন, ফেরেশতারা তাঁকে ডেকে বললেন, “আল্লাহ আপনাকে ইয়াহইয়ার সুসংবাদ দিচ্ছেন। এর আগে এই নামে আর কাউকে নামকরণ করা হয়নি। তিনি আল্লাহর বাণীর সত্যায়নকারী হবেন, হবেন নেতা, সংযমী, এবং সৎকর্মশীলদের মধ্য থেকে একজন নবী।”
While Zakariya stood praying in the mihrab, the angels called to him: “Allah gives you good news of Yahya. No one has been given this name before. He will confirm a word from Allah; he will be a leader, pure and self-restrained, and a prophet from among the righteous.”
জাকারিয়া (আ.) অবাক হয়ে বললেন, “হে আমার রব, আমার পুত্র হবে কীভাবে? আমি তো বৃদ্ধ, আর আমার স্ত্রী বন্ধ্যা।” উত্তর এল, “এভাবেই হবে। আল্লাহ যা চান, তা-ই করেন। এটা আমার জন্য সহজ। আমি তো এর আগে তোমাকে সৃষ্টি করেছি, যখন তুমি কিছুই ছিলে না।”
Amazed, Zakariya said, “My Lord, how can I have a son when I am old and my wife cannot have children?” The answer came: “So it will be. Allah does what He wills. It is easy for Me. I created you before, when you were nothing.”
জাকারিয়া (আ.) বললেন, “হে আমার রব, আমাকে একটি নিদর্শন দাও।” আল্লাহ বললেন, “তোমার নিদর্শন হলো, তুমি সুস্থ থাকা সত্ত্বেও তিন দিন-রাত মানুষের সঙ্গে ইশারা ছাড়া কথা বলতে পারবে না। আর বেশি বেশি তোমার রবকে স্মরণ করো।” তিনি মিহরাব থেকে বেরিয়ে এসে ইশারায় লোকদের বললেন, সকাল-সন্ধ্যা আল্লাহর পবিত্রতা ঘোষণা করো।
Zakariya said, “My Lord, give me a sign.” Allah said, “Your sign is that, though you are well, you will not speak to people for three days and nights except by gestures. And remember your Lord often.” He came out of the mihrab and signalled to the people to glorify Allah morning and evening.
আল্লাহ তাঁর দোয়া কবুল করলেন। তাঁর স্ত্রীকে সন্তান ধারণের উপযোগী করে দিলেন, আর জন্ম নিলেন ইয়াহইয়া (আ.)। কুরআনে আছে, জাকারিয়া (আ.)-এর পরিবার সৎকাজে প্রতিযোগিতা করত, আশা ও ভয় নিয়ে আল্লাহকে ডাকত, আর তারা ছিল বিনয়ী।
Allah answered his prayer. He made his wife able to have a child, and Yahya (peace be upon him) was born. The Qur'an tells us that Zakariya's family hurried to do good deeds, called upon Allah with hope and fear, and were humble before Him.
ইয়াহইয়া (আ.)-কে আল্লাহ ছোটবেলাতেই প্রজ্ঞা দিলেন। তিনি ছিলেন কোমল হৃদয়ের, পবিত্র, আল্লাহভীরু, আর বাবা-মায়ের প্রতি সদয়; তিনি অহংকারী বা অবাধ্য ছিলেন না। জাকারিয়া (আ.)-এর গল্প আমাদের শেখায়, কোনো কিছু যত অসম্ভবই মনে হোক, আন্তরিকভাবে আল্লাহকে ডাকতে থাকলে নিরাশ হওয়ার কিছু নেই।
Allah gave Yahya wisdom while he was still a child. He was gentle-hearted, pure and mindful of Allah, and kind to his parents; he was never proud or disobedient. The story of Zakariya teaches us that however impossible something seems, there is no reason to lose hope if we keep calling on Allah sincerely.
