ইব্রাহিম (আ.) অনেক দিন ধরে আল্লাহর কাছে দোয়া করছিলেন, “হে আমার রব, আমাকে একজন নেককার সন্তান দান করুন।” আল্লাহ তাঁর দোয়া কবুল করলেন এবং তাঁকে এক সহনশীল পুত্রের সুসংবাদ দিলেন। বৃদ্ধ বয়সে জন্ম নিলেন ইসমাইল (আ.)। ইব্রাহিম (আ.)-এর মন কৃতজ্ঞতায় ভরে গেল।
For a long time, Ibrahim (AS) had prayed to Allah: “My Lord, grant me a righteous child.” Allah answered his prayer and gave him the good news of a gentle, forbearing son. In his old age, Ismail (AS) was born. Ibrahim’s heart overflowed with gratitude.
ইসমাইল (আ.) বড় হতে লাগলেন। যখন তিনি বাবার সঙ্গে চলাফেরা আর কাজ করার মতো বয়সে পৌঁছালেন, পিতা-পুত্রের ভালোবাসা আরও গভীর হলো। দুজন একসঙ্গে হাঁটতেন, কথা বলতেন, আল্লাহর কথা স্মরণ করতেন।
Ismail (AS) grew up. When he was old enough to walk and work alongside his father, the love between father and son grew deeper still. They walked together, talked together and remembered Allah together.
তারপর এল এক কঠিন পরীক্ষা। ইব্রাহিম (আ.) স্বপ্নে দেখলেন, তিনি নিজের প্রিয় পুত্রকে কুরবানি করছেন। এ ছিল আল্লাহর পক্ষ থেকে এক সুস্পষ্ট পরীক্ষা।
Then came a difficult test. Ibrahim (AS) saw in a dream that he was sacrificing his beloved son. This was a clear test from Allah.
ইব্রাহিম (আ.) পুত্রকে ডেকে কোমল স্বরে বললেন, “প্রিয় পুত্র, আমি স্বপ্নে দেখেছি যে আমি তোমাকে কুরবানি করছি। এখন বলো, তোমার মত কী?”
Ibrahim (AS) called his son and said gently, “My dear son, I have seen in a dream that I am sacrificing you. So tell me, what do you think?”
ইসমাইল (আ.) একটুও দ্বিধা করলেন না। তিনি বললেন, “আব্বা, আপনাকে যা আদেশ করা হয়েছে, আপনি তা-ই করুন। ইনশাআল্লাহ, আপনি আমাকে ধৈর্যশীলদের একজন হিসেবে পাবেন।”
Ismail (AS) did not hesitate at all. He said, “My father, do as you are commanded. If Allah wills, you will find me among the patient.”
এরপর পিতা ও পুত্র দুজনেই আল্লাহর হুকুমের কাছে নিজেদের পুরোপুরি সঁপে দিলেন। ঠিক সেই মুহূর্তে আল্লাহ ডেকে বললেন, “হে ইব্রাহিম, তুমি স্বপ্নকে সত্যে পরিণত করেছ। এভাবেই আমি সৎকর্মশীলদের পুরস্কার দিই।” আল্লাহ তাঁদের আনুগত্য কবুল করলেন এবং ইসমাইল (আ.)-এর পরিবর্তে কুরবানির জন্য একটি মহান পশু দিয়ে দিলেন। ইসমাইল (আ.) নিরাপদ রইলেন।
Then father and son both submitted themselves completely to Allah’s command. At that very moment, Allah called out, “O Ibrahim, you have fulfilled the dream. This is how We reward those who do good.” Allah accepted their obedience and provided a great sacrifice—an animal—in place of Ismail (AS). Ismail (AS) was safe.
আল্লাহ পরবর্তী মানুষের মাঝে ইব্রাহিম (আ.)-এর সুনাম রেখে দিলেন: “ইব্রাহিমের ওপর শান্তি বর্ষিত হোক।” আজও ঈদুল আজহায় মুসলমানরা কুরবানি দিয়ে এই আনুগত্যের কথা স্মরণ করে। কুরআন মনে করিয়ে দেয়—কুরবানির মাংস বা রক্ত আল্লাহর কাছে পৌঁছায় না, পৌঁছায় মানুষের মনের তাকওয়া।
Allah kept Ibrahim’s good name alive among later generations: “Peace be upon Ibrahim.” To this day, at Eid al-Adha, Muslims offer a sacrifice to remember this obedience. The Qur’an reminds us that neither the meat nor the blood reaches Allah—what reaches Him is the mindfulness in people’s hearts.
এই ঘটনার কেন্দ্রে ভয় নয়, আছে ভালোবাসা, বিশ্বাস আর ত্যাগ। পিতা-পুত্র দুজনেই একে অন্যের প্রতি সম্মান রেখে আল্লাহর ওপর ভরসা করেছিলেন।
At the heart of this story is not fear, but love, faith and sacrifice. Father and son honoured each other and placed their trust in Allah.
যা সবচেয়ে প্রিয়, তার চেয়েও আল্লাহর সন্তুষ্টিকে বড় মনে করাই আসল ত্যাগ। আর কঠিন সময়ে ধৈর্য ও বিশ্বাস মানুষকে দৃঢ় রাখে।
True sacrifice means valuing Allah’s pleasure even above what we love most. And in hard times, patience and faith keep us steady.
